The Linked Learning Alliance applauds Governor Newsom’s budget proposal for the 2022–2023 fiscal year. The more than $2 billion in funding for college and career pathways and dual enrollment constitutes a transformative investment in youth ages 14 to 24 who are in the decade of difference, a formative period of development when young people establish their identities, dispositions, and lifelong aspirations.

It's hard to believe we've come to the end of another year! While many challenges continued, there were so many more bright spots. We continued to focus on high-quality Linked Learning experiences for all students, explored postsecondary outcomes for pathway graduates, centered student voices and engaged alumni, increased funding for integrated college and career learning, and more. Today, we look back at our shared 2021 successes.

Happy December! I hope everyone enjoyed a restful and relaxing Thanksgiving break. This week, we’re reading articles on the impact of COVID-19 on educators and parents, the rise of bachelor degree opportunities in community colleges, the latest developments in the California Cradle to Career Data System, and more.

As pathways, schools, and districts leverage Linked Learning to engage and anchor students learning and their postsecondary aspirations, the Linked Learning Alliance is here to help. In this three-part series, we will be highlighting resources that can support your college and career pathway journey in the three main categories: integrated program of study, work-based learning, and integrated student supports.

With large higher education systems like the University of California moving beyond standardized assessments for college admissions, high school educators are exploring additional ways to determine student mastery. Many turned to performance assessments even before COVID-19, and many more began to leverage this form of assessment in distance learning. On Wednesday November 17, students and education leaders from California, Colorado, and Virginia joined the Linked Learning Alliance, Center for Innovation in Education, and Envision Learning Partners to share how performance assessments have made an impact in their context.
