Five Students Awarded Linked Learning Scholarships
Scholarship Eligibility a Benefit for Pathways Participating in Linked Learning Certification
SACRAMENTO, CA – The Linked Learning Alliance announced today that five high school seniors are the recipients of the Linked Learning Scholarship 2017. This year the Linked Learning Scholarship is being awarded to five students across California.
“Each of these students is on a trajectory of success, which was launched in their Linked Learning pathway,” said David Rattray, chair of the Linked Learning Alliance Board of Directors and Executive Vice President of the Center for Education Excellence and Talent Development, Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce. “On behalf of the Linked Learning Alliance, I am proud to congratulate each of the scholarship winners. We look forward to your success in college and seeing your professional dreams become reality.”
Each Linked Learning Scholarship winner will receive a $1000 one-time scholarship to help cover college expenses. Winners were selected based on academic achievement and accomplishments in a student’s Linked Learning pathway, financial need, persistence, and leadership. Each winning student also completed an internship aligned with their course of study and was nominated by both a teacher in theirLinked Learning pathway and a supervisor from their work-based learning experience.
The opportunity to apply for the Linked Learning Scholarship is only available to students in Linked Learning pathways that have achieved Candidate level or above on Linked Learning Certification.
“Linked Learning Certification provides a signal that students in pathways achieving Candidate level or above are benefiting from the four pillars of Linked Learning,” said Hilary McLean, Executive Vice President of the Linked Learning Alliance. “We want all students to benefit from high quality Linked Learning pathways so they will be prepared for success after high school. Certification recognizes and incentivizes quality pathways.”
Linked Learning Certification is a platform that supports and provides recognition of continuous improvement and progress toward preparing all students for college, career, and life.
Districts can use Linked Learning Certification to register pathways that provide or are aspiring to provide students a Linked Learning experience that integrates the four core components of Linked Learning: 1) college preparatory academics, 2) high-quality sequenced CTE courses, 3) work-based learning and 4) comprehensive support services for students. Since the release of Linked Learning Certification at the beginning of this 2017, over 200 pathways have registered to participate in the certification process, including pathways in California, Massachusetts, Illinois, Michigan, Texas, Kansas, and Saskatchewan, Canada.
